Don't: Cut corners
Cutting corners in any remodeling project can be harmful and even costly in the long run. If you can't afford to remodel your entire bathroom well, then maybe start by doing only a couple things now and then moving on to more later on. If you wind up cutting corners then you'll have to pay for things to be fixed and replaced in a short while down the road from now. You'll also risk winding up cutting the overall value of your home if those cut corners prove to be obvious.
Don't: Be afraid to ask
Doing it yourself is one thing but doing it without needed help is just ridiculous. If this is something you've never done before then you shouldn't be afraid to ask questions and there are a lot of places where you can ask.
